Sunna Wathen
Sunna is half Icelandic and half English. She is a painter and sculptor and has a masters from the Royal College of Art in London. She lives fulltime in Deia, Mallorca with her two children. Born in Greece in 1964, she spent her childhood travelling around the world with Mallorca always inbetween. Her mother was an artist and her father was a bagpipe player, poet and mountain climber. Her work is influenced by this unusual and diverse upbringing, combining an eclectic array of materialsincluding bread shapes she bakes to form sculptures that look like dried fish, hyde, skin, coral, autumnleaves, lace or bone, X rays to make boat Sails and paintings of collaged abstract elemental beingsswirling in her ancestral landscape of Iceland. Collage is an integral part of her practice, combiningwork done at different stages in her life, bringing past and present together in a fresh way.
